Cancellation, Weather & Payment Policy
We want your dragon boat experience to be fun, safe and stress-free. Because we operate on the water, weather can sometimes be unpredictable. This policy is designed to be fair to our teams while allowing us to safely and reliably run our programs.
1. Minimum Participation
- A minimum of 10 paddlers is required for each booking.
- If fewer than 10 paddlers arrive on the day of the event, the session may be cancelled without refund, as boats, staff and equipment have already been reserved.
2. Payment & Booking
- A 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking and reserve your date, boats and staffing.
- The deposit is applied toward your final balance but is non-refundable if the client cancels.
- Full payment is due 48 hours before the event.
- Events not paid in full by this time may be considered cancelled by the client.
3. Client-Initiated Cancellations
We understand that plans change.
- 48+ hours before: All payments refunded, minus the 30% deposit.
- 24–48 hours before: Deposit retained + 50% of the remaining balance refunded.
- Less than 24 hours or no-show: No refund.
Whenever possible, we’re happy to apply cancelled bookings toward a future date, subject to availability.
4. Weather & Safety
We paddle rain or shine, but safety always comes first. Sessions will not operate in unsafe conditions such as thunder or lightning, white-capped waves, extreme winds or torrential downpours.
If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, boats must return to shore and remain off the water for at least 30 minutes after the last sight or sound of thunder or lightning.
Weather decisions are made by our coaches based on real-time conditions, not forecasts alone. A client choosing to cancel because of a forecast follows the client cancellation policy unless Corporate Recess has determined conditions are unsafe.
5. Weather Cancellations & Interruptions
Before Launch:
If Corporate Recess determines that unsafe conditions prevent us from launching, your team will receive a full-value credit, including the deposit, valid for 12 months.
If rescheduling is not practical – particularly for late-season bookings – a refund may be requested. If staff have already arrived and costs have been incurred, a small portion of the booking may be retained to help cover those costs.
After Launch:
For weather purposes, paddling time begins when participants enter the boats and the on-water portion begins. Safety instruction, icebreakers and shore activities do not count toward the planned 60-minute paddle.
- 45+ minutes completed: The paddling portion is considered substantially complete and no credit or refund will normally be issued.
- Less than 45 minutes completed: The team will receive a 50% credit toward a future booking, valid for 12 months.
6. On-Shore Alternatives
When weather delays or prevents paddling, we may be able to pivot to on-shore team-building activities, such as group challenges, relay races, games or Capture the Flag.
This can be discussed in advance when weather looks uncertain or together on the day of the event, depending on conditions, staffing, available space and your group’s preference.
If an alternative program replaces some or all of the paddle, any applicable credit or refund will be discussed based on the portion of the original program that could not be provided.
7. Cancellations & Contact
Cancellations must be communicated by email at barrie@corporaterecess.ca or by phone at 705-220-3023. The time your message is received determines refund eligibility.
By booking, clients acknowledge the inherent risks of on-water activities and agree to this cancellation, weather and payment policy.
Our goal is always to get you on the water safely and give your team the best possible dragon boat experience.
